Welcome to the Elk River Writing Project's site for K-16 teacher professional development opportunities based at Montana State University Billings. These opportunities are based on ERWP's unique focus on best literacy practices across all content areas, Indian Education for All, and place-based education.
Why Elk River?
Elk River is the name Montana tribes use for the Yellowstone. Here are some examples:
Iichliilikaashaashe – Apsaalooke (Crow) Moʔéhe-óʔheʔe – Tsetsêhesêstâhase, So'taahe (Northern Cheyenne)
Otahkoiitahtaa – Pikuni (Blackfeet) Ilwɔsiih Niicaah – A'aninin (White Clay/Gros Ventre)
